Shizuka Ryokan, Australia's renowned and award-winning Japanese guesthouse, is an indulgent retreat featuring traditional accommodation, delicious cuisine and luxurious spa treatments. Set amid three and a half acres of tranquil bushland in Hepburn Springs near Daylesford, Shizuka Ryokan is fully authentic in every detail including its architecture, furnishings and gardens.
Shizuka Ryokan offers just six guestrooms, thus ensuring intimacy, privacy and tranquillity. The grounds are often visited by a wide variety of native Australian wildlife including kangaroos, anteaters, rabbits, turtles and various colourful birds. More important however is the genuine and warm hospitality of the Japanese and local hosts, offering generous and personalised service. They are renowned for their authentic cuisine including their signature four-course dinner served individually to guestrooms and a traditional Japanese breakfast so rarely offered in Australia.
The guestrooms all feature the hallmarks of traditional Japanese style accommodation including futon bedding, shoji rice paper sliding screens and decorative tokonoma alcoves. They also boast modern world comforts including air-conditioning, central hydronic heating, mini-bar fridge, tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryer, toiletries and CD player. Guestrooms all feature tatami straw matting, offering that subtle fragrance unmistakably reminiscent of Japan. There's also zaisu chairs and handmade zabuton pillows to accompany the traditional kotatsu low tables in each room. The ensuite bathrooms in each guest suite have been totally renovated and now boast beautiful new tiling and accessories. And the dining room has introduced a range of lovely original ceramics, which were purchased in Japan exclusively for use at Shizuka Ryokan.
Shizuka Ryokan is a convenient 15-minute walk from the Hepburn Springs spa bathhouse complex and just a stone's throw from the Hepburn Springs Golf Course. The bustling town of Daylesford, with its myriad of art galleries, craft stores and fine restaurants and cafes, is a short five-minute drive away.
Relax, indulge, rejuvenate and immerse yourself in the tranquillity of Shizuka Ryokan.
