Woodbridge on the Derwent offers unique, luxury riverfront accommodation, steeped in history and defined by gracious hospitality. Woodbridge is Tasmania's only Small Luxury Hotel of the World and Tasmania's only accredited five-star hotel.
A grand Georgian mansion set on the banks of the Derwent River with just eight suites, fine dining and spectacular water views, this enchanting hotel is perfectly placed to experience Tasmania's unique wildlife and wilderness, wineries, whisky distilleries and pristine produce.
Steeped in convict history, Australia’s colonial affairs feel locked into the many antiques and artefacts preserved in Woodbridge on the Derwent. The reading room is a delightful spot to relax next to a crackling fire and there is a telescope to view the coming and goings on the river. Relax in the picturesque gardens, stroll along the riverfront or take the kayaks for a spin.
Luxurious suites are stylishly designed with elegant modern furnishings, open fireplaces, swish bathrooms, DVD players, wifi and the original polished timber floors. The look is contemporary classic with cool tones setting off contemporary artworks and original artefacts, rich fabrics and textures, and cushion strewn beds and sofas to stretch out on. The windows frame glorious river views from every suite.
Woodbridge operates in the style of the grand houses of yesteryear and is less a hotel, and more an expression of warm, country hospitality. It has been described by a guest as: “like being given the keys to a friend’s country mansion”. Dining is set in the colonial splendour of The Pavilion and is always a delight! Woodbridge offers beautifully balanced menus, with complementing local wines and ales.
Woodbridge is located in New Norfolk in the breathtakingly beautiful Derwent Valley, with its constantly changing vistas along winding country roads. It’s only 25 minutes from Hobart’s CBD, 40 minutes from the airport and 20 minutes from MONA. Wilderness areas are also close by, as are Russell Falls, Mt Field National Park and the Styx Valley old growth forests, home to the tallest hardwoods in the world.
At Woodbridge, you will step back in time, return to a gentler pace and breathe.
