incredibly peaceful

"I would spend the days hiking and then relax in the armchair in front of the French windows, with a glass of local wine and some Bruny Island Cheese, and take in the views, listen to the waves roll in from the bay and read my book."

Nestled in an unspoilt bay in remote East Coast Tasmania, Piermont is a magnificent sanctuary with a vast wilderness and rich culture to explore. Here, time is marked by serene shifts in the pink of the granite mountains and can be spent at any pace - hiking across the rugged landscapes or savouring local delicacies. The retreat’s peaceful setting is paralleled only by the warmth and casual hospitality of the family who have run it for 25 years.

The retreat’s small community of sustainably built lodgings and 180-year-old Homestead that now houses the restaurant effortlessly coexist with nature, providing a comfortable sense of home in the wild. From inside, sweeping views across Great Oyster Bay complete a feeling of immersion in this poetic landscape; the grind of the city is all but a distant memory.

Piermont also boasts two private beaches to the east, the neighbouring pristine Cowrie Beach further south and Stony River just north, as well as an outdoor pool perched beside the shore. For times when energy levels rise, Piermont’s tennis court, kayaks, mountain bikes and other sporting gear are free to use.

Scattered amongst she-oaks, gum trees and dune grasses on Piermont Beach are charming cottages and villas. High on the hill, Piermont’s suites with expansive spa bathrooms seem to float over the treetops across Great Oyster Bay.

The captivating natural surroundings are respectfully framed by Piermont’s suites’ understated European elegance, Tasmanian timber surfaces and neutral hues. Expansive spa bathrooms with sea views and cosy bedrooms provide a luxurious yet uncomplicated base in which to unwind. A stay at Piermont leaves little else to do but rest or explore.

The Homestead Restaurant’s award-winning chef collaborates with neighbouring organic farmers and winemakers to curate a constantly evolving, seasonally inspired menu that celebrates the region’s diverse flavours.

On offer are freshly shucked Tasmanian Pacific oysters and abalone from the clear sea stretching beyond the restaurant’s window, grass-fed eye fillet from the green pastures of nearby Cape Grim and heirloom vegetables planted specifically for Piermont by small growers in Launceston. The best of these hand-selected ingredients are prepared using French techniques infused with subtle cues to Piermont’s Argentinian heritage, and finished with micro-herbs from the kitchen garden.

  • Stayed two nights at this great little escape. The cottage was superb, comfortable and peaceful. Even better was the restaurant. If you stay there don't miss the restaurant. One of the most enjoyable dinners we have had for a long, long time.

  • What a beautiful and tranquil place by the sea. We walked into our three-bedroom cottage and just said "wow". It was so pretty with stone and timber and classic but quaint decor. It's on the water with panoramic views of the bay and about three minutes from town. It is very quiet and peaceful and eco friendly. A real retreat.

    - CATE
  • The views were spectacular. Take note that the more you pay the fewer cottages you will have in front of yours and the more impressive your view will be. The cottages themselves are outstanding and fully equipped with everything you'll need. The wood burning fireplace was probably my favourite thing in the cottage. Or the spa in the corner of the bedroom. Can't recommend highly enough!

  • It was truly amazing, the place is incredibly peaceful, with stunning views across the bay to Freycinet National Park. I would spend the days hiking around the National Park and then relax in the armchair in front of the French windows, with a glass of local wine and some Bruny Island Cheese, and take in the views, listen to the waves roll in from the bay and read my book. I felt so rested after just two nights here.
